My journey through The Love Dare keeps on rolling! Day 3 was hard, y’all. I won’t even tell any tales. “Love is not selfish” was a very hard dare for me. I shed a lot of tears completing this dare and it hurt me very much. But that’s called sacrifice and that’s what love is, putting another’s needs at the expense of yourself and making the decision that the temporary pain you feel means less to you than than the satisfaction you receive from doing what God has asked you to do. Yesterday, I was in pain that even manifested physically. I sort-of cheated on my Full Body Cleanse and ate a salad from Chipotle with guacamole on it that may or may not have been made with something I had no business eating. Shortly thereafter, I was done for the day and pretty much only accomplished my Dare and little else. Today, I feel pretty good, reinvigorated and ready for Day 4!
Day 4: Love is Thoughtful
Today’s Scripture: “How precious also are Your thoughts to me…How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. –Psalm 139:17-18.
Today’s Lesson: Love actively thinks about another person’s needs. This is easy during the exciting courtship stage of a romantic relationship or when you’ve just started to build a new friendship. But after awhile, we get busy, caught up in ourselves, and the loved ones dearest to us can get lost in the shuffle of everyday life. But how amazing is it that the God of this universe thinks about US every single moment? The Psalmist is simply blown away by this realization and writes in Psalm 8:4 “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” God’s thoughts about us outnumber even the sand, the Psalmist tells us! Therefore, our thoughts about His people ought to be the same. Thoughtfulness is a proactive act of love and lets another person know that they matter to you.
Today’s Dare: Do you know anyone who may be going through a hard time? Whoever God brings to your mind, call that person up or stop by and visit with them. Ask how they are doing and listen to them. And ask if there is anything you can do to help.
Scriptures I’m meditating on:
“I thank my God every time I remember you.” — Philippians 1:3
“The Lord has been mindful of us; He will bless us.” –Psalm 115:9
“Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts towards us cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” –Psalm 40:5
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace (wholeness, well being, health, blessing) and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11
Today’s Prayer: Lord, I thank you for your thoughtfulness toward me. Please help me to show that same thoughtfulness to your people today and everyday. Point me in the direction of the ones you would have me serve today and remove every obstacle in my heart that would come against me doing Your will. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
