VIDEO: MLK Memorial Concert — Interviews with Civil Rights & Music Legends!
Last night, I had the supreme pleasure of attending the MLK Memorial Message in the Music Concert at the Convention Center. India.Aire graced us with her soulful singing and dancing accompanied by Israeli singer Idan Raichel. She even sang for a packed auditorium a song off of her upcoming album, Open Door, due out in October. WATCH:

Eddie Levert kept it all the way funky with his performance of Love Train:
And he was followed by the closing act, the diva, the legend, Ms. Patti LaBelle. I sat next to Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, who sat next to Martin Luther King, III as she sang “Two Steps Away” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. WATCH:
I also had the sublime honor of interviewing Civil Rights legend Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, CNN correspondent (and my phrat!) Roland S. Martin, noted scholar/author/professor Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, and living legend Patti LaBelle! WATCH my interviews with each on what being a part of the MLK Memorial Weekend means to them:
- Michael Eric Dyson
- Roland Martin
- Rev. Jesse Jackson
- Patti LaBelle
I also got a chance to meet the sculpter of the 30-foot-tall Martin Luther King Memorial, Lei Yixin:
♫ A lovely night, a lovely night, a finer night you know you’ll never see ♫ At least until they reschedule the MLK Dream Celebration Gala! You know I’ll be right there!
I know, super grainy photos. I will have to figure out how to work this dern iPad!
That must have been an amazing experience. Would have loved to have taken my children!
