Misty Copeland’s Powerful UnderArmour Campaign
Last year, Under Armour released Misty Copeland’s incredible first contribution to its award-winning “I Will What I Want” ad campaign: a video of Misty showing off her dance skills while a child’s voice reads one of the exceptionally harsh rejection letters Copeland received from a dance company when she was 13. The letter writer said that she had the wrong feet, bust and body for ballet and she was too old to be considered. Yet now she’s the first African American principal ballerina in American Ballet Theatre’s 75-year history.

Now, Misty is back with another powerful “I Will What I Want” contribution advertising UA’s new Armour Bra:
The ad reads, “I will be labeled. I will be dismissed. I will not be unsupported.” Misty has faced incredible racism throughout her career, as showcased in that awful rejection letter she received at 13. She and Serena Williams have been ridiculed for their amazing, dominating bodies in spaces that are usually reserved for thin women. Despite all of this, Misty’s latest clever ad expresses why she is so beloved. Her determination and positive spirit will not be crushed because not only does she “will what she wants,” we’ve also got her back. Go on, Misty! We support and love you!
