ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Brooke C. Obie, JD, MFA, is the international award-winning author of Book of Addis: Cradled Embers, the first in a 3-part series. Book of Addis won the 2018 Accra International Book Festival Independent Writer’s Award, the 2017 Phillis Wheatley Book Award for First Fiction and the 2017 Black Caucus of the American Library Association Literary Award for self-published fiction. BOOK OF ADDIS has appeared in Ebony, NBCNews.com, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Teen Vogue, MarieClaire.com and more. Her thesis for The New School’s MFA in Fiction program, which became Book of Addis, was a finalist for the Fulbright Fellowship. She’s attended writing workshops with Columbia University in Paris, France in 2012 and the Callaloo Journal of African Diaspora Arts & Letters workshop at Oxford University in July 2016. In August 2019, Brooke was the La Maison Baldwin Summer Writer-in-Residence at James Baldwin’s last hometown, St. Paul de Vence, France. In October 2020, the pilot screenplay adaptation of BOOK OF ADDIS was named a quarterfinalist in the Screencraft TV Pilot Screenplay Competition. Brooke lives happily in Los Angeles.
