#Lent Day 13: Fast Stinginess. “Seek an opportunity to be irrationally lavish toward someone who cannot possibly return the favor. Give because you love. Give without letting reason ration out your love in stingy portions.” –40 Days of Decrease by Alicia Britt Chole. I’m having trouble with this fast because I’m kind of over giving to people who don’t give back. I’ve finally accepted that I’m a person who needs reciprocity from those I love, so I always bristle when there’s a Christian emphasis on giving lavishly, expecting nothing in return—because of course, only the women get this message and the men get to continue on being coddled and lavishly gifted upon believing its their God-given right and I’m getting irritated just thinking about it. I will probably not lavishly give to any man today. Maybe that’s it! Maybe I’ll give to a woman who gives SO much and gets next to nothing in return. (Also, please pray with me about this issue of reciprocity.)
